Michael K. Williams, a 54-year-old actor, has died.
On Monday afternoon, Williams was discovered in his Brooklyn penthouse. There was no immediate word on what caused his death, although sources claim he was found comatose in his dining room with “what looked to be heroin on the kitchen table.”
Marianna Shafran, Williams’ long-time representative, announced his death in a brief statement.
Shafran stated, “It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams.” “While mourning this unfathomable loss, they beg for your privacy.”
HBO has also issued a statement on Williams’ death. The actor was best recognized for his role as Omar Little, a con artist, in HBO’s crime thriller TV series The Wire, which aired from 2002 to 2008. Williams also appeared in HBO’s Lovecraft Country and Boardwalk Empire, among other popular series.
A statement from HBO says, “We are saddened to learn of the death of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years.” “While the world is aware of Michael’s enormous artistic abilities, we knew him as a close friend who was adored by everyone who had the opportunity to work with him. We express our heartfelt sympathies to his family for their tragic loss.”
Williams is well renowned to Battlefield fans for his part in Battlefield 4 as Sgt. Kimble “Irish Graves.” The actor reprised his role as Graves in Battlefield 2042, although he will not be there to witness the game’s reaction.
Before studying acting at the National Black Theatre in New York City, he excelled in street dance and went on tours with George Michael and Madonna. He made his film debut in Bullet (1996), starring Mickey Rourke and Tupac Shakur.
Williams had a significant facial scar from a fight in Queens on his 25th birthday, and the rapper had seen a picture of him and helped him be recruited to portray his brother in the film.
